Dear MS,

There is no doubt you are one of the best things which has happened to Indian Cricket !
It has been amazing and you have really pulled the Indian team together like no one else has ever done that !
Congratulations to you on that !

And I am no one to really comment or leave a remark on whatever happens on the field !
I am a nobody !

However, an observation, I feel should be shared, maybe somewhere, it hits a chord !
I am sure you would already be working on it !

Sir,
The toss is seemingly becoming a huge factor in ODI's today, the game practically is getting dictated by the team winning the toss.
More so, when the teams are equally balanced.

The points are -
When batting second, i.e. chasing a strong total -- 275 + or 300 +
I strongly believe these things should be kept in mind..

- Elongate your batting line up,
utilising a few pinch hitters in the bowling power plays.

- Choose the batting power play very carefully, when you have yr best 2 going and during the middle overs.. say 37 - 42, 39 - 44,
or even 27 - 32. The idea actually should be to pull off a min 35 - 45 - 60 runs of the same, this is anything b/w 7 - 12 r/over.
This will really ease the pressure.
Also, take the power play when batsmen are not tired.. or exhausted or facing cramps..

- The same needs to be applied for the bowling powerplays as well....
using pinch hitters like ..
harbhajan singh, Irfan Pathan...
send them up the order..

- Lastly keep players like Dravid & Yrself for the last.. Just to keep the fear in the minds of the opposition, also, with the fact.. with age not on Dravid's & Tendulkar's side..
You can not expect them to bat the entire day !

- Also, another suggestion..
though i am very scared to say so..
But wouldn't it be wise to keep Sir Sachin Tendulkar for the middle order when batting second... he would feel much fresh and raring to go..
And make him open when you bat first !
Does that sound sense !
Else pardon me with that 1 !

e.g. today's match.. how does this batting order sound when chasing second on 300 + total

Gautam Gambhir
Virat Kohli
Suresh Raina
Harbajan Singh
Sachin Tendulkar
Yousof Pathan
M S Dhoni
Rahul Dravid

What say ?

Many thanks for your time if you actually do get the time to read this.
The point is while chasing second,
we have to stratigise very differently !

Hope this is of some use to you.
After all what does matter is winning !
Right !
